We undertake a full range of conservation treatments to clean and repair both historic and modern textiles, tapestry and costume. Inventive stitching and adhesive based treatments are undertaken using custom dyed support materials and threads.
Our spacious workroom, number of staff and range of facilities mean we can handle large scale projects. Preparation and mounting for display is one of our specialisms.
After examining the object either on site or in our studio, we supply a detailed condition assessment and estimate for the proposed conservation treatment. We can work on site if the object is too large or fragile to transport; more detailed treatments are normally undertaken in our studio. We are insured to transport your objects if necessary. Work is normally charged at an hourly rate.
Personal items belonging to small family collections are given the same care and attention as museum based objects. We regularly conserve embroidered samplers, family christening robes, wedding veils and vintage fashion. We also conserve a wide range of domestic textiles including bedspreads, curtains and interior furnishings.
Museums and Historic Houses
Many institutions use our services to maintain their historic interiors and textile collections. The National Trust, members of the Historic House Association, the National Maritime Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Asian Civilisations Museum Singapore and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority are some of our recent clients.
