Description

It’s not very often that you get to celebrate someone’s life through knitwear, but this is one of those moments … this pattern was inspired by an unlikely pairing of motorbike leathers and a 1960s Scandinavian-influenced sweater worn by biker Beryl Swain, an updated version of which is now on display in the Isle of Man’s Manx Museum. The sweater is knitted in the round, top down, every round k and comes with instructions for 8 sizes (to fit chest circumference 75-80cm (30-32″) to 120-125cm (48-50″).

ZTC spent many months conserving the textiles and accessories for a special permanent TT display in the museum, as well as building the dynamic mannequins and finally mounting the figures in race-appropriate poses … including the first woman to compete in the race, Beryl Swain, who raced in 1962. Many images of Beryl from that time feature her wearing this marvellous sweater, and a moth-averse, acrylic version of it is now proudly sported by her mannequin as part of the TT display.

Museum Knits aka Geraldine Warner, creates patterns inspired by or related to knitwear in museum collections and heritage organisations. A percentage of all sales goes to the museums and organisations who inspire the patterns.
