Conservation

We undertake a complete range of conservation treatments to investigate, preserve and beautifully present your textiles, tapestries and costume. Additionally our paper conservation expertise means we are more than qualified at conserving mixed media objects such as fans, screens, pattern books and works on paper as well as more traditional textile collections.

“Zenzie’s practical and common sense approach, her breadth of experience and ability to interpret analytical information means that she is able to evaluate appropriate treatment options and thus manage her teams, and her clients, expectations.”

Ksynia Marko, Textile Conservation Adviser for the National Trust (retired 2019)

Starting with a condition assessment of your object either on site or in the studio we will present you with a treatment proposal and estimate. Conservation treatments are usually undertaken in the studio under controlled conditions unless your object is too too large or too fragile to transport. Site work is one of our areas of expertise so if it is more appropriate for your textiles to be conserved in situ we are more than happy to come to you. We have amassed a wide range of site equipment, ingenuity and expertise over the years.

Work is normally charged by the hour and site work by the day; treatment costs include an illustrated conservation report.

We we are happy to give advice and undertake initial consultations at no charge by email or over the phone – please do get in touch.

Our Clients

Many institutions use our services to maintain their historic interiors and textile collections. Our clients include local, national and international museums, churches and cathedrals, the National Trust and members of the Historic House Association. Caring for corporate client collections is also an area of expertise. See Our Clients for further information.

Personal items belonging to small family collections are given the same care and attention as museum objects. We regularly conserve embroidered samplers, family christening robes, wedding dresses and vintage fashion. We also work on a wide range of domestic textiles including bedspreads, curtains and interior furnishings. Find out more.
