Description
The technique of smocking can trace its British origins back as far as the Middle Ages. During the 18th and 19th centuries it was most commonly found on labourers’ smocks, due to its ability to be both form-fitting and flexible. The technique and garment have since become more or less synonymous, but of course the technique itself can be used in any garment for shaping or decoration and is being taken forwards by 21st century designers and hobbyists everywhere.
Inspired by all the fabulous examples we’ve found, we built this kit for you to try out the technique and take it beyond! The kit includes:
– Instruction booklet
– Ready-pleated fabric
– 4 embroidery threads
– 2 size 10 embroidery needles
– 1 piece of flat fabric to practice stitching
We’ve given you two different colour options for your embroidery threads: choose between ‘bright primaries’ and ‘subtle’ from the dropdown menu when you check out.
